Zumbo's Just Desserts delivers its lowest EVER ratings for season two premiere

It’s a flop… again! Zumbo’s Just Desserts delivers its lowest EVER ratings for season two premiere

Zumbo’s Just Desserts was commissioned for a second season earlier this year, despite delivering poor numbers for Channel Seven back in 2016.

And it appears the baking show still hasn’t connected with audiences, if the ratings for the launch episode are anything to go by.

As reported by industry website TV Tonight, Zumbo’s Just Desserts premiered on Sunday to just 446,000 metro viewers.

This is significantly lower than the 1.08 million who tuned in to watch the season one premiere three years ago.

The show, judged by Adriano Zumbo and British chef Rachel Khoo, didn’t improve throughout the week either, dropping to 359,000 metro viewers by Tuesday.

The first season of Zumbo’s Just Desserts was heavily advertised during Channel Seven’s coverage of the 2016 Olympic Games.

However, it wasn’t renewed for a second season at the time because ratings had dwindled during the course of the show’s run.

But in January this year, a new series was picked up, thanks in part to a renewed popularity on streaming platform Netflix.

Zumbo’s Just Desserts sees a group of home bakers take on a series of challenges, including Adriano’s signature ‘tower of terror’ recipe.

A year after Zumbo’s Just Desserts debuted on Seven, Adriano was infamously accused of ripping off his staff.

Five disgruntled employees appeared on A Current Affair in May 2017, claiming Adriano had withheld their superannuation, hadn’t paid them their proper rates and also failed to pay them overtime.
