The Bachelor’s Abbie Chatfield breaks down in tears after being accused of ‘hamming up’ her relationship with Nathan Favro ‘for attention’

The Bachelor runner-up Abbie Chatfield broke down in tears on Instagram on Wednesday after being accused of seeking out media attention.

She became emotional after reading an article on the Nova 106.9 website that quoted Matty Johnson and Natalie Bassingthwaighte’s recent comments about her on their podcast, The Babble.

Matty and Natalie had accused Abbie, 24, of ‘hamming up’ her relationship with Nathan Favro from Ali Oetjen’s season of The Bachelorette

They suggested that Abbie was looking for attention when she shared several Instagram posts of herself and Nathan getting close at a Bondi Boost event in Sydney earlier this month.

‘Maybe they weren’t flirting and they were hamming it up. It was kind of weird though,’ said Matty.

Natalie then claimed the Instagram posts were a ‘cry for attention’.

Responding to these hurtful comments, a tearful Abbie accused Matty and Natalie of ‘assuming her motivations’.

‘I feel like I’ve tried really hard since [The Bachelor] finished to show you guys who I really am and this thing just follows me around and all I get is negative media,’ she said.

‘I still get called a “villain”. I still get called all these things and I’m f**king over it. Like, they treat me like I’m a character and I’m not. Like, I’m struggling so much right now.’

‘People don’t understand the snowball effect this has had… for the past six months like I really just want it to be over,’ she added.

After her tearful admission, Abbie reassured fans she was okay and was just feeling overwhelmed by the criticism.

Matty is a former Bachelor himself, having starred in the 2017 season. Natalie is an actress, singer and media personality.
